Milan, 23 June 2006

Dear friends,

I would like to greet all those who follow with interest the activity of the MEDIA Salles association, that from last May, I have again presided over, hoping to repeat the positive experience of the 2001-2004 period.

This message precedes the imminent arrival of Cinema Expo International, that, as you surely remember, has been, from 1996, a privileged place for the MEDIA Salles’ “Focus on Europe” event, created with the goal of providing visibility to European films on the international market and offering exhibitors information services and opportunities of comparison on cinema-going in Europe.

The MEDIA Salles’ “Focus on Europe” has brought to the forefront among the exhibitors’ community films that, “premiered” in Amsterdam, received a warm welcome with the international public.
Among these titles were:
- Merry Christmas by Christian Carion
- Don’t Move by Sergio Castellitto
- Bend It Like Beckham by Gurinder Chada
- The Son’s Room by Nanni Moretti
- All About My Mother by Pedro Almodóvar
- Life Is Beautiful by Roberto Benigni

The success of this and of similar initiatives convinces us this year too, notwithstanding the smaller financial resources available, to sustain the commitment of contributing to the visibility of European films and of supporting the exhibitors with our range of services.

And that’s how the special formula of “Focus on Europe” was born online.
In the following days you can see on the MEDIA Salles’ website (www.mediasalles.it) trailers and promo reels of European films that will be released in the next months on the European markets, announced in a message by MEDIA Salles.

There will be other classic ingredients of “Focus on Europe”, such as information on the cinema market (for example, in the Cinema Expo’s “Program Journal” you can read the article by Elisabetta Brunella, Secretary General of MEDIA Salles, on cinema-going in Europe in 2005) and on the latest news in digital technology (a special edition of the “DGT online informer” is to be released in the coming days).

Lastly, thanks to Cinemeccanica’s collaboration, those of you who will be at Cinema Expo can pick up the free cd rom of the “2005 final edition” of our “European Cinema Yearbook”. The cd rom will be available at the Cinemeccanica stand (no. 223) starting from Tuesday 27 June at 2 pm.

Certain there will be future occasions to meet up again in person and that together we will manage to raise the visibility of our European cinema and make it better known throughout the Continent,

cordial greetings from myself and on behalf of all the MEDIA Salles’ staff,

Jens Rykær
President

MEDIA Salles
, a project operating within the framework of the European Union's MEDIA Programme, with the support of the Italian Government, fosters theatrical distribution of European audiovisual products, both by high profile campaigns involving Europe's cinema exhibitors and by initiatives to raise the visibility of European productions with industry players and potential audiences, creating specialized information channels on a global scale. Thus the current initiatives from MEDIA Salles dovetail in a program with a triple focus – training, promotion and information – and maximum combined effect.
