Focus on Europe
at Cinema Expo 1999 - Amsterdam, 21 – 24 June 1999

In the sixth event of the series, Focus on Europe implemented a variety of initiatives in the ambit of Cinema Expo International 1999, the important European meeting which brought to Amsterdam some 2 300 cinema distributors and exhibitors from all over Europe and the major world markets. Focus on Europe was opened by the seminar Focus on European Exhibition promoted by MEDIA Salles with Dodona Research. The analysis focused on the following market:

At the beginning of the seminar, Romano Fattorossi - President, presented the 2nd issue of the MEDIA Salles Newsletter "European Cinema Journal".

The Amsterdam event also gave a wide-ranging overview of the most recent European productions. Pedro Almodóvar's film "Todo Sobre Mi Madre" (All About My Mother) and "Den Eneste Ene" (The One and Only) by Susanne Bier were shown on a big screen, accompanied by video presentations of more than 100 titles at the MEDIA Salles stand. Thanks to the cooperation of companies and organisations such as Adriana Chiesa Enterprises (Italy), Italian Cinema (Italy), Brussels Ave (Belgium); Catalan Films & TV (Spain); Christa Saredi (Switzerland); Danish Film Institute (Denmark); El Deseo (Spain); G2 Films (UK); Greek Film Centre (Greec); Holland Film (The Netherlands); Kevin Williams Associates (Spain); Nordisk Film International Sales (Denmark); Trust Film Sales (Denmark), MEDIA Salles made available for operators illustrative materials, catalogues, trailers and films.

The MEDIA Salles stand also featured an interactive display of the "European Cinema On-line Database", accessible on the Internet (http://www.mediasalles.it) and containing information on more than 4 000 films and 9 000 companies. Many operators were able to insert data on-line regarding their companies and the most recent productions.

With the co-operation of the MEDIA Desk - Netherlands and the presence of John Dick as representative of the MEDIA Distribution, Focus on Europe also provided an opportunity to disseminate information on the MEDIA Programme and its activities.
