Milan, 3 June 2004
Representative of 13 different countries
the 40 participants to the "Focus on Europe - Kidflix Special"
event, that opened today in the Czech Republic in the context of the 44th
International Film Festival for Children and Youth, held at Zlín.
In the course of the event, the exhibitors involved in programming for
younger audiences and in the promotion of European cinema, represent a
Europe that spreads from Ireland to Hungary, from Portugal to Norway,
and will participate in seminars, debates and screenings of a selection
of European films proposed at the Zlín Festival. Among these are Cheese
and Jam, a Slovenian film from 2003, set in Sarajevo, the birthplace
of the Director, Branko Djuric, and the Swedish film Jinak (2003),
by Christina Olofson.
In his welcoming message to the European exhibitors, the President of
the Festival, Vítezslav Jandák, affirmed: "This 44th edition has the richest
contents in the history of the Zlín Festival, probably the largest in
the world for the quantity of children's and teen's films, for the variety
of countries represented and for the number of children and young people
that participate in it. And this year it is even richer, thanks to the
collaboration with MEDIA Salles, that allowed the involvement of cinema
exhibitors from all over Europe. This is a concrete manner for us to feel
even more deeply a part of the European Union, that is becoming ever larger".
